Sample Schedule (First 2 Weeks)
House Preparation
Clean housing structure. Allow 0.25 m² per bird. Ensure good ventilation, predator-proof wire mesh, perches at 40 cm, nesting boxes (1 per 5 hens).
Source Day-Old Chicks & Brooder Setup
Purchase KARI Improved Kienyeji or Rainbow Rooster chicks. Prepare brooder: 60W bulb per 20 chicks, temperature 32 °C. Provide chick mash.
Newcastle Vaccination
Vaccinate against Newcastle Disease using Lasota strain eye-drop. Kienyeji chickens are susceptible — vaccination is non-negotiable.
Introduce Local Feed Blend
Introduce: whole maize (50%), sunflower/soybean meal (20%), omena (10%), sorghum (10%), bone meal (5%), salt (1%), minerals (4%). This achieves 15–18% protein.
Gumboro Vaccine
Administer IBD (Gumboro) vaccine in drinking water. This disease causes immunosuppression and is fatal in chicks.
