Sample Schedule (First 2 Weeks)
Site Preparation & Variety Selection
Watermelon needs deep, sandy loam soil, hot climate (28–35 °C), and low humidity. Select early-maturing F1 varieties: Sukari F1, Sugar Baby, or Crimson Sweet. Install drip irrigation before planting.
Land Preparation
Plough to 30 cm. Form flat planting basins or furrows at 2 m × 1.5 m spacing. Incorporate 5 kg compost per planting hole. Apply DAP (3 g/hole) at planting.
Direct Sowing
Sow 2–3 seeds per hole, 2 cm deep. Plant in the afternoon. Cover with soil and mulch with dry grass. Germination in 5–7 days.
Thinning to 1 Plant Per Hole
Thin to the strongest seedling per hole at the 2-leaf stage. Cutting with scissors is preferred to uprooting, which disturbs surviving seedling's roots.
Germination & Establishment
Irrigate daily for first 2 weeks until vines establish. Watermelon is drought-tolerant once established, but establishment phase requires consistent moisture.
