Sample Schedule (First 2 Weeks)
Vine Selection & Sourcing
Source vines from disease-free nurseries or KARI/KEPHIS certified vine multipliers. Preferred varieties: Kenya Fahari (orange-fleshed, high Vitamin A), SPK004 (Sindu), or Ejumula. Avoid vines from fields with virus symptoms (mosaic, leaf distortion).
Land Preparation & Ridge Formation
Plough to 20 cm. Form ridges 30 cm high and 90 cm apart. Ridges improve drainage and tuber development. Incorporate compost or DAP (50 kg/ha) into ridges.
Planting
Plant vine cuttings (25–30 cm long, 3–4 nodes) on top of ridges at 30 cm spacing. Bury 2–3 nodes in soil, leave 1–2 nodes above ground. Plant in late afternoon or on a cloudy day.
Establishment Check
Vines should show new growth by Day 7–10. Replace any that have wilted and died. Water gently if no rainfall.
